One of the fastest growing fields, in terms of innovations and advancements, is the medical drug industry. Blessing Hospital, Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing, and the Area Health Education Center (AHEC) now sponsor a two-semester pharmacy technician education program.
Pharmacy technicians assist licensed pharmacists in providing health care and medications to patients. They have a broad knowledge of pharmacy practice, and are skilled in the techniques required to order, stock, package, and prepare medications, but they do not need the advanced college education required of a licensed pharmacist.
The Pharmacy Technician Educators Council says due to the increasing clinical emphasis of pharmacists' responsibilities, the increasing pharmacy workload due to our aging population, and the increasing need to control healthcare costs, the employment outlook for well-trained pharmacy technicians is very good.
