Prepared
   Childbirth
To prepare you and your coach for a rewarding birth experience, there are two options for childbirth classes - a four week session (two hours per week) or one all day class on a Saturday. Both options cover breathing and relaxation techniques, methods of induction/augmentation of labor, comfort measures, options in labor, Cesarean births, infant characteristics, and options in feeding your child. The end of the class focuses on common newborn behavior, feeding and sleeping patterns, basic newborn care, and selecting a healthcare provider for your baby. As part of the course, you will receive a 123-page manual which covers the birth process through the first year of life. Please remember to bring two bed-sized pillows to class and to dress comfortably.

Breastfeeding Class
This one night class focuses on the advantages of breastfeeding and shares tips for successful breastfeeding. Our certified lactation consultant reviews proper postioning and how to tell if baby is getting enough milk. She also addresses concerns such as continuing breastfeeding after returning to work. Moms and their partners are encouraged to attend. Those who breastfeed are also encouraged to attend a weekly mother's group that offers support for moms who breastfeed.

Epidural Class
This class is designed to help answer questions you and your coach may have regarding epidural procedures during childbirth. The class is lead by Blessing Hospital's Anesthesia staff and includes a short video, explanation of epidural procedure, and question/answer session. Classes are held for one hour.

Childbirth Refresher
This class is a one-night course for women who have attended a Prepared Childbirth class during a previous pregnancy. The class is designed to reinforce and update your knowledge and skills. Please dress comfortably and bring two bed-sized pillows to class. You are encouraged to bring a support person. The class begins at 7:00 p.m. and will last approximately until 9:00 p.m.
