header underline

MLTs (Medical Laboratory Technicians) are highly trained healthcare professionals who perform hundreds of sophisticated tests, aiding in the rapid and accurate diagnosis, management and prevention of disease. These professionals use sophisticated biomedical instruments, microscopes and computers to analyze blood and body fluids. Job duties of MLTs include performance of diagnostic procedures in the areas of clinical chemistry, microbiology, blood banking, hematology and urinalysis. They are also responsible for quality assurance, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting and continuing education. They work in a variety of settings including hospitals, clinics, laboratory based industries, public health agencies and research facilities.

The job market is excellent for Medical Laboratory Technicians. Hospitals and other health care facilities throughout the country are facing critical shortages of qualified clinical laboratory personnel as the baby boomer population retires from the work force.
